The articles highlight the experiences of the activists in five different situations. They were involved with the forgotten segments of the society at large, in Malaysia's rush towards a progressive and developed nation's status. The programmes implemented by those involved in helping to uplift the social and economic conditions of the target group is the main focus of the articles.

They show through their studies the uphill task in giving a helping hand to those in the margins of society. Throughout their experiences, a persistent attitude of perseverance despite the barriers helped to see some progress in their efforts. The success stories are not front page news items of the mainstream media unless it is sanctioned by the present ruling coalition.

Theirs is more of small steps towards a better future for the marginalised. Sometimes, the progress is thwarted by the machinations of bureaucracy's or the lackadaisical approach of those who wield power.

It is a painful reminder that Malaysia has a long way to go before every citizen can savour their rightful place in this blessed country.
