The book deals with the Chinese peasants’ struggles against the machinations of the superiors of their villages. The authors managed to interview the victims and find that most of the cases have not been resolved despite appeals to the highest authorities. The lowest class of workers in the villages, the farmers are almost always victimised. Meanwhile, the higher-ups seem powerless in dealing with the village upstarts and the income disparity between the urban and rural areas continues to widen further. At the present moment, 2006, nothing seems to have changed.
